(Written by Conor Oberst, Performed by Jake Bellows)

Amy’s got a baby in her stomach
She took my hand, I felt it kick
So she’s crying and glowing
She’s 3 months and showing
Seeing her now makes me want to live

But her man’s got an angry mouth
He once told me to rot in hell
He’s poisonous, reasonless
Demons and Jesus
If he died it’d be just as well

So I’m having it out with the rain
It argues so long and so loud
It keeps tapping and talking
We’re walking forever on First Avenue headed south

And all the traffic lights blur
Into a bright bouquet
My heart is in mothballs
It’s been packed away
And I can’t get to it no way
Until the birds return for spring cleaning

All the traffic lights blur into a bright bouquet
I wish I could just turn and walk away
But I can’t do it no way
Until the birds return for spring cleaning

Park Ave. was an indie pop group from Omaha, Nebraska. The line up included: Clark Baechle (The Faint) and Jamie Williams (Tilly & the wall) on guitars, Conor Oberst (bright eyes) on drums, Neely Jenkins  (Tilly & the wall) on bass guitar, and Jenn Bernard on keyboards.

I accidentally stumbled upon park ave when looking around for early bright eyes demos. Their 1st and only record, When Jamie Went to London We broke up, isn’t perfect, but its pretty astounding considering how old these kids were when they recorded this stuff (in high school). I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that most of the lyrics were written by Conor, I’m not sure if its true but they certainly seem like early BE style lyrics.

anyway, great song. Its worth checking out the album if you can find it.

The new Bright Eyes / Neva Dinova split ‘reissue’ is out now. This is my favorite new track of the LP. A return to form for Bright Eyes? I think so.

Bright Eyes – Happy Accident

also, listen to this live version of I know you, I think its much better than the LP version anyway, its got more teeth.

and everyone should buy the reissue, because its got some of the best BE/Neva material ever recorded on it.

I’ve been sitting on this boot for a while, and since I haven’t made any new ones as of late, I figure its a good time to share this here one. It was a fantastic show, hands down this is the best version of breezy you will ever hear.

Conor oberst played a special solo show @ The Waiting Room with simon joyner in his hometown of omaha the other night. He performed mostly old bright eyes songs (I bet as practice for that un-announced “final” BE tour coming up!) and he also threw in a new song for kicks.

setlist:

1. north of the city
2. Cape Canaveral
3. I won’t ever be happy again
4. Something vague
5. train under water
6. bowl of oranges
7. 10 women
8. a scale a mirror and those indifferent clocks
9. I know you (new song)
10. poison oak
11. Moab
12. milk thistle

encore:

13. new year (w/joyner)
14. we are freemen
15. roll on
16. I don’t want to die in a hospital
