Deluxe Edition #4: The Hold Steady – American Music

Lately I’ve been super into The Hold Steady’s 2006 gem, Boys And Girls In America. Recently I stumbled upon The Deluxe Edition, which features an awesome cover of the Violent Femmes classic American Music. Its Similar enough to the original to feel familiar, but different enough to avoid feeling rehashed, and though I don’t think Craig Finn Could sound any more different than Gordon Gano, he does a pretty good job filling the shoes.

Deluxe Edition #3: Pavement – Summer babe (Live Brixton Academy, London, Dec. 14, 1992)

Slanted and Enchanted: Luxe & Reduxe is a double album by Pavement featuring a remastered version of the band’s first studio album Slanted and Enchanted, as well as outtakes & live tracks from the same era as the original release. I Love this version of summer babe.

Deluxe Edition #2 – The Microphones – I Felt My Size (Acoustic) // The Moon (Version)

My favorite tracks off the 2008 K records reissue bonus disc.

Phil Elvrum on the bonus disc:

“There were about six actual songs from the Glow era that hadn’t been released. So there are those, and then I just made these things I called “destroyed versions.” They aren’t really remixes, because remixes tend to imply you add a house beat. I didn’t add anything, I just took stuff away. So it ended up being a studio collage where I spliced tape together and added weird stuff, backwards tracks, part of one song on top of part of another song. It was a weird, chaotic mash-up of the album. They’re all excerpts from the album versions themselves.”

Deluxe edition #1 – Girls – Life In San Francisco

This may be my favorite girls track (it competes with lust for life for the top slot). Its found on the Australian bonus version of their debut LP “Album”. I have no why Idea it didn’t make the cut for the original LP, its a great album closer.
