New Titus Andronicus – A More Perfect Union

I thought Titus Andronicus’ yet-to-be-released new album had been out for months now. I guess I was wrong. The band just released the title track as a sort of teaser for the new album, and its pretty rad. I remember yelling “more harmonica!” when I saw them play @ the market hotel a couple years back. I still wish there was a bit more harmonica. Maybe next time!

Song of the week: Frightened Rabbit – The Twist

I just discovered frightened rabbit via some chatter about their new album ‘the winter of mixed drinks’. While TWOMD is a good album in its own right, ‘The midnight Organ fight’ is a near perfect classic. I’ve been listening to this album virtually nonstop since I discovered it.

Beat Radio releases new single "Golden Age", It's pretty great.

I recently had an interview with Brian, in which we discussed his last record and the band and all sorts of fun stuff. They’ve  just released another new single for 2010, and its pretty great. I’ve added an mp3 download below, but you should hit up their website for lyrics + more songs + flac downloads, etc.

“This is a song about getting your hopes up, and allowing yourself to dream of bigger things. My wife Liz called me out on something recently – I always play down my ambition, either with self-deprecating humor, or just a calculated lack of imagination. I make plans and get excited about things, but only to a certain point. If I don’t get my hopes up, I don’t allow myself the chance to fail. Under the guise of being realistic, I shelter myself from the possibility of disappointment. I know this sounds new age-y, but fuck it. The truth is I want big things for Beat Radio. Beat Radio is about ambition. This song is about laying it all on the line, and expecting everything in return. It’s about believing in your dreams.”

New find: Drew Danburry

“What better way to get acquainted with Drew Danburry than to hear the first two tracks from his sixth album Goodnight Gary. Right, album six. The singer, songwriter, nonstop tourer (750 shows since 2005), and seemingly downcast jokester/self-archivist is also planning a companion record Goodnight Dannii, which brings the count to seven. Danburry’s been doing his thing for about eight years, ostensibly in Provo, Utah. (Or at least that’s where he’s currently residing.) I’ve put the songs in the order they appear on the record because they sound best that way: “The Religion Of Me” is a quiet acoustic exposition and “Edited” opens out to other voices assisting Danburry in his late-night retelling of a bloody dream. Like the latter’s title suggests, each of these is a snippet.” -stereogum

I think the songs sound better in the reverse order, so I’m putting them up that way. You can of course, listen to them in any order you please. “Edited” is my fav of the two, wish it were longer though.

The Hold Steady announce new album, Craig Finn/Tad Kubler talk about it.

the hold steady

“Like hyper-wordy, classic-rocking clockwork, the Hold Steady‘s fifth album– dubbed Heaven Is Whenever– is due out May 4 via Vagrant (May 3 via Rough Trade in Europe). For this record, the band re-teamed with producer Dean Baltulonis, who manned the boards on 2005′s Separation Sunday and engineered their debut, Almost Killed Me. It’s also the band’s first album since Almost Killed Me that doesn’t feature keyboardist Franz Nicolay– who left the group in September– as a full-time member.” – via p4k

INTERVIEW: BEAT RADIO

Whenever I’m checking out a band’s myspace for the first time, I do two things, I press the play button, and I look at the hit counter. Now, I can’t really tell you just how surprised I was when the first song began to play. With a modest 91000 views, I thought It was probably a fluke, I was sure that only the first song would be good, and that the rest would be mediocre. Well,  I was wrong, Every song was good. I immediately went to their website and downloaded their two newest releases. Both of them were fantastic. Could I really be one of the first people discovering this band? Of course not.

Well, I got the chance to chat with band leader and Long Island Native Brian Sendrowitz, and ask him what was going on.

New Find: Japandroids – Young Hearts Spark Fire

I’ve been meaning to get around to listening to Japandroids for a while now.  I stumbled onto this song while listening to their new track Art Czars (which I’m not a big fan of ). This track is pretty great though, its like indie does emo, but with better guitars and drums. (the guitars +drums are awesome)
